VCE Vblock™ Systems Series 700 Architecture Overview

Overview

Unified storage configuration

In a unified storage configuration for Vblock Series 700, the compute layer accesses the storage layer through

both file and block methods in the network layer using NFS/CIFS and Fibre Channel (FC) respectively. The

engines within the array connect to NAS gateway X-Blades through the fibre channel SAN. The X-Blades also

connect to the Cisco Nexus switches within the network layer over 10 GbE to provide NFS access to the

compute layer in addition to the block access described in

Block storage configuration. The unified topology is

shown in the following illustration:
