VCE Vblock™ Systems Series 700 Architecture Overview

Network layer hardware

700LX network components

The 700LX contains components for IP and SAN connectivity. Each 700LX model includes two Cisco Nexus

5548UP IP switches and two Cisco MDS 9148 Multilayer Fabric switches. These switches provide IP and

Fibre Channel connectivity respectively between the compute layer components and the storage layer

components.

assigned use for each port in the Vblock system. Refer to

IP networking components

Each 700LX includes two Cisco Nexus 5548UP Ethernet switches. In the Vblock system, these switches

provide Ethernet connectivity:

•

Between the Vblock system internal components

•

To the customer site network

•

To the Advanced Management Pod (AMP) through redundant connections to the Cisco Catalyst 3000

Ethernet switches in the AMP

•

For backup and business continuity requirements when configured

The Cisco Nexus 5548UP Ethernet switch supports low latency line-rate 10 GB Ethernet and Fibre Channel

over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity on up to 32 ports or 48 ports including the expansion module. Fibre Channel

on a Cisco Nexus 5548UP is not supported by VCE.
